 Tell
us a bit about your background -- what led you into art?
I am a 28-year-old illustrator/artist/tattooer living in Athens, GA. I
was led into art very naturally at a young age, I can remember as far
back as kindergarten being very interested in art making and supported
in that path. It was truly inevitable that I would be an artist of some
sort, it was my calling and I am blessed for it.
 Tell
us a bit about your bird design and the story behind it.
I love birds. Not in the trite usage of love as simply something you are
strongly interested in, but in the deepest of meanings -- I love birds.
So what would be more natural than drawing a love-bird? When all else
fails just express what is in your heart, and you really cannot go
wrong.
 What
inspires your designs?
I am inspired by so much, to me life and death are endless
cycles of inspiration. There are so many layers of experience to
be inspired by, we have an astonishingly beautiful physical
world around us, we have an astonishingly beautiful
interpersonal world around us, we have and astonishingly
beautiful intrapersonal world within us, and we have an
infinitely beautiful sacred world around us and within us at all
times. Even in the darkest of times and the darkest of places we
exist within a sea of beauty, and if you are not inspired you
are wasting the precious few breaths you were given in this
lifetime.
 What’s
your studio/workspace like?
I am very blessed to have two workspaces to create in, both are
generally clean and organized most of the time as I have found that
despite my tendency to make a mess, I can create with greater clarity
with a certain level of cleanliness. It is also inherently necessary
within the craft of tattoo. I have a well lit home studio that I built
with a giant window overlooking some magnificent land, and a woodstove
next to my drawing table to keep warm! I love being able to work from
home and spend time with my wife and son. I also have a private boutique
style tattoo and art studio in an arts district that is housed within an
old cotton warehouse, so it is an efficient and comfortable space. I
welcome folks from my town and around the world into it to receive
tattoos.
 What’s
your favorite handmade craft you’ve ever made or received?
A special family friend of ours who was around for much of my
childhood made my wife and me a beautiful handmade quilt for our
wedding. I have always loved handmade quilts and feel that it is
one of the most impressive crafts; this one is special for many
reasons.
Finally, if you were a Crayola color, what color would
you be?
Hmmm. Well, I would be purple because that is the color my son
always seems to pick, and it would mean I could spend more even
more time with him, and he is the coolest person I know!
