Steps To Complete
Begin by stitching two star pieces and five corner pieces of the freestanding lace onto water-soluble stabilizer. We recommend using 30-50 wt. 100% cotton thread for the first color change, as this is necessary to hold the structure of the star together. 40 wt. metallic thread is recommended for the second color change. Once you're done stitching, rinse and dry each piece completely (here's more on stitching freestanding lace). |
Start gluing or sewing the corner pieces perpendicular to one side of a star, going all the way around the edges of the star. |
After you've attached each of the five corner pieces, begin gluing the second star on top. |
Leave one of the star points unglued to feed your ribbon through. After you've fed the ribbon, complete your gluing. |
And there you have it! A beautiful 3D lace ornament, ready to hang on your tree, or in a window. |
As with most of our lace designs, the possibilities are endless! Feel free to experiment with different colors and color combinations of thread and make several to adorn your Christmas tree. You can also choose to leave off one of the corners and use the star as a mini tree topper too! |
