Steps To Complete
Begin by stitching the four pieces of freestanding lace onto heavy duty water-soluble stabilizer using 30-50 wt. cotton thread for best results. Once you're done stitching, rinse and dry each piece completely. (Here's more on stitching freestanding lace). |
Next, use either a hot glue gun or a hand sewing needle to adhere the four panels together. |
Continue connecting the pieces, one by one, all the way around the structure. |
Next, carefully run a line of glue down the back center of every other panel along the parasol. This will help create a wave dimension in the finished piece. |
Gently push or pinch together the glued seam to set a permanent fold in the lace. |
When you are finished gluing, the end result should look like this. |
Next, cut your wooden dowel, pipe cleaner, or wire to your desired handle length. We used a tiny wood saw to shorten a wooden dowel to 4.5" in length. |
Add flair to your umbrella handle with the help of a permanent marker, using a piece of masking tape to create a straight edge. |
A decorative push pin can help secure your handle in place and add a little extra something to your finished parasol. |
Secure your handle in place using hot glue on the inside of the parasol and set to dry. |
