How are designs delivered?
All designs and packs at Urban Threads can be downloaded after purchase. That means that you can shop and sew anytime -- day or night.
We do not send any orders through the mail; we don't make disks, cds, cards, or USB drives.
If you're new to downloading, and not comfortable with the process, order the free designs to get familiar with the downloading steps. Practice downloading those until you're well-versed in the steps.
To receive further assistance regarding the downloading process, send an email to support@urbanthreads.com . Tell us which web browser you're using, and we'll gladly direct you to the appropriate instructions.
Can I request a design?
All of the designs that you see at our site are drawn by Urban Threads artists, right here in Minnesota. However, we don't do any custom digitizing, nor do we have a referral to a specific digitizer.
We are always happy to take requests for new designs and enjoy bringing your ideas to the drawing board!
Send your ideas and suggestions for new designs by email to support@urbanthreads.com . Describe your idea as best you can, and you can even attach pictures if you wish. But please don't request things like professional sports teams or licensed characters (Disney, Pixar, etc.), as we cannot create those types of designs.
Which size should I order?
Urban Threads creates most designs in several sizes. The variety of sizes offered means that you can usually find a size suitable to your project.
Avoid resizing the designs. Resizing can damage the design and result in a loss of quality.
To choose a size for your project, measure the space that you wish to fill. Then, choose the size with that in mind. Also, consider your size limitations. If youβre not sure of your machineβs hoop / size limitations, you can check for your machine's maximum embroidery area in the user manual.
For example, imagine you want to embroider a design on a tea towel. Measure the tea towel and determine where you want to place the design.
If you have a machine that can accommodate that size, then choose the size closest to that area. But if your machine is limited to a smaller area, then choose what will fit your machine.
Which format should I choose?
When you order a design from Urban Threads you will receive all of the available formats. If you aren't sure what format to use with your machine, check our helpful recommended format guide, or your embroidery machine's manual.
A design isn't in my regular format. Why not?
Not all designs are available in all formats. Some of the more complex designs have limited formats due to the number of color changes, the number of stitches, etc.
Each design has the available formats listed on its product page.
If a design is not available in your regular format, check to see if your machine can read a different format. For example, many of the Brother and Husqvarna machines can read the DST format, and all of our designs are available in DST.
Why do design colors look strange on the machine?
The designs that you see on the website are stitched samples. When you download the designs and view them in a software program or on the embroidery machine, you're viewing a digital rendering in a particular format, and the colors will be different.
At first glance you may think that there's something wrong with the design. But no, there's nothing wrong with the design, nor do you need to change colors. Simply ignore the colors that you see in the design. Disregard the colors that your machine tells you to use. Instead, follow the color change sheets that we provide on the website.
