- Rayon thread for embroidery
- Masking tape
- Medium weight cutaway stabilizer
- Water-soluble thread (for loopy fringe)
- Seam ripper (for fuzzy fringe)

Fringe embroidery designs are specially digitized with rows of satin stitches that create fringe when cut or soaked.
There are two types of fringe that can be made from these files. The first is loopy fringe which is created using water-soluble thread in the bobbin during some steps, and the second is fuzzy fringe which is created by cutting the satin stitch.
For loopy fringe, you will need to wind two bobbins. The first bobbin should be wound out of normal bobbin thread, and the second bobbin should be wound of water-soluble thread. As they probably are both white, place a piece of tape on the water-soluble bobbin, so you don't get them mixed up.
Hoop a piece of fabric and cutaway stabilizer together. While embroidering the design, watch the color change sheet closely. Use the water-soluble bobbin for any step called "fringe," and then use the normal bobbin thread for every other step. Make sure to change them out accordingly, otherwise the fringe will not work.
Once the embroidery is finished, soak the embroidered design in water, or simply launder it to remove all the water-soluble thread. Then allow it to air dry.
Once the water-soluble thread is gone, gently fluff the fringe with the point of a pair of scissors to pull the fringe free of the fabric.
For fuzzy fringe, hoop a piece of fabric and cutaway stabilizer together, and embroider the entire design with normal bobbin thread.
After the embroidery is finished, turn the piece over so the back is facing up. Carefully cut through the outer edge of each fringe satin column (the edge opposite the tackdown satin) using a small pair of scissors or a seam ripper. Make sure to only cut the rayon embroidery thread and not the bobbin.
Then turn the piece right side up, and fluff the fuzzy fringe with the point of a pair of scissors. This will free it from the fabric. Continue until all the fringe portions are cut and fluffed.
