When you download an in-the-hoop wristlet strap design, you will find multiple files. Some are the embroidery files, and the others are dieline files marked with the letters "DL". Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the correct shape and size. Open and print each dieline file using an embroidery software.

Spray the back side of the paper dieline with temporary spray adhesive and smooth it onto the fabric.

Cut out the shape and remove the paper.

Repeat this process for the back piece, too. 

Now that the fabric pieces are cut and ready, it’s time to embroider the wristlet strap. Hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer. 

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the embroidery file (not the dieline file). Use a 11 or 75/11 sharp sewing needle as it will make smaller holes in the stabilizer.

Begin embroidering the design following the color change sheet. The first thing to embroider will be the dieline. This marks the area on the stabilizer to place the front fabric piece.

Remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the back of the front fabric piece with temporary spray adhesive.

Place the fabric right inside the sewn dieline.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue with the design—a running stitch tack down will sew next. This holds the front fabric in place for the remainder of the design.

All of the inside elements will sew after that. On the color change sheet, look for the note that says, "back piece tack down." When you get to this section, stop the machine and remove the hoop from the machine but do not unhoop the stabilizer.

Place the back piece right on top of the embroidered design with right sides together. Tape it in place.

Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue with the design. A running stitch tack down will sew, leaving an opening on the side of the wristlet. This binds all the layers together.

Remove the hoop from the machine, unhoop the stabilizer, and carefully tear it away.

Turn the wristlet right side out through the opening left on the side of the wristlet.

Carefully fold the edges of the side opening in 1/4” on the front and back. Press, using a pressing cloth and iron. This will make it easier to close the opening cleanly. Do not turn the short ends in 1/4”.

Edgestitch down both sides of the wristlet strap. This will create a nice, finished look and close the opening along the side.

With a small pair of scissors, trim away any loose threads at the ends.

Fold the wristlet strap in half so that both open ends are together. Take your folded wristlet and insert both ends into the wristlet hardware.

To close and secure the hardware, you can either use a specialized tool like a key fob plier tool or use a pair of standard pliers. If you use standard pliers, take a couple pieces of tape to cover up the metal grooves so that they don’t scratch your hardware.

Carefully press down on the hardware until both sides are firmly clamped together.
