Trick or treat?! This curious container can hold either for your Halloween parties and decor. Follow these simple instructions to craft a beautifully spooky bowl.

Supplies

To craft your freestanding lace bowl, you will need:

  • Skull Bowl (Lace) embroidery design.
  • 30-50 wt. 100% cotton thread
  • Sewing machine OR hand needle and matching thread
  • Scissors

Designs Used

Begin by stitching your seven pieces (one base piece and 6 side panels) of freestanding lace onto heavy duty water-soluble stabilizer using 100% cotton thread (30-50 wt.) for best results. Stitch one lace piece per hooping to keep your lace looking great.

Rinse and dry the piece completely (here's more on stitching freestanding lace).

Next, attach each of the side pieces to the center piece of your bowl. We found using a zigzag stitch to be effective and if you use back-tacking, this will secure the stitches in place.

After all of your panels are attached, stitch up each of the sides. For best results, stitch from center piece outward.

You should be able to do this with all of the panels, but if it gets to be too difficult with the last two panels, you can always opt for hand stitching.

Finally, trim up your threads and feel awesome!

Use your bowls for holding treats, Halloween decorations, or simply display your creation as-is! Don't be afraid to experiment with other thread colors -- just remember that 30-50 wt. 100% cotton thread will work best for this lace.
