Set a romantic table with a tiny lamp made out of a wine glass, a battery-operated tea light, and machine-embroidered lace! It's just four pieces of lace stitched together, but when those things combine, you have a gorgeous 3D lampshade that's ready to light up your life. Here's how to make your own!
Supplies
First things first: you'll need to download the Little Lampshade (Lace) design and stitch out four of the lace segments on your embroidery machine. Check out this tutorial for details on stitching freestanding lace. To assemble your lampshade, you'll also need:
- Hand-sewing needle and thread to match the color of your lace
- Scissors
- Battery-powered tea light
- Wine glass (ours has a diameter of just under 3" at the rim)
Designs Used
So, let's start with connecting our pieces. Start by lining up the bottom pieces, as pictured. You can either hand-stitch these together, or use your machine to zigzag stitch across the edges of the two pieces.
Keep adding the pieces together and stitching down the edges to bring them securely together.
OK! Now you have your four lace pieces stitched neatly together.
Curl your lace around, right side out, and carefully hand-stitch the last section together.
The last step is simple: turn on your battery-powered tea light and place it inside a wine glass. Then place the lampshade over, and ta-dah! There you have a beautiful and charming lampshade.
No need to stop at one ... you could make as many as you like!
